This essay is a guided exploration into the mythopoetic middle of psyche. This paper will emphasize the importance of cultivating a relationship with metaphor, image, and the poetic nature of the soul which in turn offers an individual improved psychological flexibility.

How developing a relationship with the archetypal energy of Dionysus can foster a greater acceptance of states of depression.
I also discuss how Dionysus was not a hero, and Dionysian consciousness does not fight the states of the body and of emotion, but fosters a reverence for them which may seem antithetical to heroic consciousness.
